Knowledge about automobile glass clips

Car glass is an indispensable and important accessory on the car body, mainly for protection. Car glass is mainly divided into two categories: car glass clip and tempered glass, which can withstand strong impact. At present, the front windshield of most car models is car glass clip, while the side window and rear window glass are tempered glass.

Car glass clip is a composite glass product made of two or more pieces of glass with one or more layers of organic polymer interlayer sandwiched between them. After special high-temperature pre-pressing (or vacuuming) and high-temperature and high-pressure process treatment, the glass and the interlayer are permanently bonded together.

As a kind of safety glass, car glass clip will not produce sharp fragments to hurt people like ordinary glass after being broken due to the bonding effect of the PVB film sandwiched between the two pieces of ordinary glass. The broken fragments will be stuck to the film, and the surface of the broken glass will remain clean, effectively preventing the occurrence of fragment puncture and penetration incidents, and the anti-destruction ability is about 10 times that of tempered glass, ensuring personal safety.

Tempered glass is glass with compressive stress on the surface, also known as strengthened glass. It is a type of safety glass. Usually chemical or physical methods are used to form compressive stress on the glass surface. When the glass is subjected to external force, the surface stress is first offset, thereby improving the bearing capacity and enhancing the glass's own resistance to wind pressure, cold and heat, and impact.

The strength of tempered glass is 3-5 times that of ordinary glass of the same thickness. When damaged by external force, the fragments will appear as small obtuse honeycomb-like particles, which are not easy to cause serious harm to people.

In addition to safety protection performance, what are the characteristics of automotive glass clips and tempered glass in terms of heat insulation, noise reduction and other performance?

Automotive glass clips can filter about 100% of UVB (medium-wave ultraviolet rays) and 94%-98% of UVA (long-wave ultraviolet rays), providing up to 50SPF ultraviolet protection; while tempered glass can filter 65%-75% of ultraviolet rays, providing about 16SPF (equivalent to the worst sunscreen) ultraviolet protection.

Under the sun, the temperature inside the car can be reduced by about 10° compared to tempered glass.

Car glass clips can reduce the noise outside the car by 3dB more than tempered glass of the same thickness.

In many aspects, car glass clips surpass tempered glass. However, since the cost and weight of tempered glass of the same thickness are less than that of car glass clips, tempered glass is used in side windows and rear windows where safety performance is not required.
